How do I find a teaching job overseas?
I have heard that many overseas teaching jobs will pay off your student loans. Is this a true statement? I would like to take advantage of this opportunity and teach overseas but I do not know where to begin looking. I have done some web searches and it is hard to tell if the websites I am finding are legitmate. Names of websites or agencies that helped you get a teaching job overseas would be helpful. Also, a review of your experiences teaching overseas would also be helpful. I do have a valid teaching certificate.

- If you have a valid teaching certificate for the state in which you reside, you may want to check out DoDDS (Department of Defense Dependent Schools) which operate many schools for the dependent children of military, civilian and US Government personnel. Go to www.dodea.edu for more! Jobs are listed at the OPM website - USAJobs -- use keywords Defense Education Activity
- I don't know of overseas jobs that actually pay for your loans (except some programs run by the US Gov - like some Peace Corps work). However, you CAN save a good bit of money working overseas and use what you save to pay back loans. In terms of being able to save a lot, many people say Korea is the best place to work. eslcafe.com has the best list I've found of overseas jobs. If you are interested in the Peace Corps, you might want to look into it too. In terms of finding a good position - the best way to do it really is if you have personal connections with someone. I found the university that I taught at through a friend, and other friends arranged several other job offers for me that I would have felt confident about taking. If you don't have any overseas friends, the eslcafe website has a forum where you can ask other people who have gone about their own experiences.
