would you recommend people travel overseas first or see their own country.?
from personal experience as a 22yo I had already travelled most of australia. I was a vain, selfish girl with an ignorant opinion on how other countries do things and life in general. Until I travelled overseas and saw third world conditions for myself. Suddenly I was grateful for the life I had and realised how lucky I was and what a beautiful country I lived in. I now recommend overseas travel before domestic, even though I have travelled more extensively in oz and seen some third world conditions here. I am a better person for it. What do you think about it? overseas or your own country?

- i live in england and its not that interesting so id say over seas first. most smaller european countries'll probably answer the same thing, as beautiful as they are to others, our own countries when theyre so small and samey get a bit tiresome.
- Australians as a rule, have a natural curiosity about the outside world, and so IMHO it's probably best to go overseas first and do Australia later. I've just returned from three months in Europe. Until I left I was a vain, selfish person with ignorant opinions on the state of the Australian nation. When I went overseas however, I was suddenly grateful for the life I had and realised how well off I was and what an open spacious country I lived in that for the most part operated like a well-oiled machine. I am a better person for it. In conclusion, go overseas first see your own backyard later, because I really developed a passion for seeing Oz while I was gone.
- The USA is so huge that there is an awful lot to see. I hitch hiked across the entire country several times with very little money and lots of strangers were kind to me. Then when I was 24 I came into a very small inheritance. My wife and I flew to Britain and then traveled overland to India, hitch hiking from Belgium to Iran. The trip was absolutely amazing, although we did run into some hostile people in Iran and Afghanistan (I still hate Afghanistan). But India was absolutely amazing and very cheap to live in.
- I agree with you but I would like to travel my own country first and then go overseas especially the third world countries. That is my opinion though as I have always wanted to do that to help other people before me. Glad to see you became a better person as I think most or our aussies are ignorant and selfish.
