Cnn financial advisor - ways to save money??? tip 5%??

I'm a student... and I work for tips.. and I heard that Cnn had a financial advisor on with ways to save money with the higher costs of gas and food.... He supposedly advised ways to save money when going out to eat would be... Eat a bigger meal for lunch.. skip the extras (desserts, appetizer... ect) and lower your tip to 5%?!?!!?!?!?! I've heard this from several different people, although I can't seem to find anything about it online... I just can't imagine anyone thinking 5% is okay!!? How bout if you can't afford to tip properly, then go to McDonalds or somewhere tips aren't accepted!! Why would you screw some poor person who is trying to make a living the same as you... If you get 5% service, then tip 5%... don't tell millions of people on national tv that its okay to tip someone 5% to save yourself some money!!! Ugh. what a peice of garbage. I bet this financial advisor gets his food spit in from now on ;) i thought maybe this was a misunderstood comment... i guess not... yeah.. he'll get 5% service from now on.. what a pos...

  1. I know some waitresses who will make his food soupy if he visits their establishment. 5% is a joke when these people are slaving over these cheap idiots. The cheapo should learn how to cook for himself.
  2. I unfortunately don't have an answer, but I have the same concern. I had a friend stay with me for the weekend and he had heard this also. I have been searching online now for over an hour and cannot find anything except this written about it. I am not going to give up though. I was told that they advised to drink water and tip 5%. The result of this is that we are going to make less money which means we are going to in turn spend less money-which won't be helping the economy at all.
