Is it just me who thinks Larry Merchant should retire?
The man's post fight interviews are absolutely painful! Hurry up and move on with the questions already. And his closing statements are supposed to be thought provoking and profound but I think he tries too hard to make it such that they instead are useless babble and an incoherent mess! I can't stand him!

- Absolutely. I keep waiting for him to drool because he forgets to swallow. I also think that HBO needs to get off of the De La Hoya bandwagon and help bring back the integrity of the sport instead of fueling another money grubbing scuzzbucket. The bias they show is disgusting.
- Sure, he's not at the top of his game... but I'll take Larry Merchant any day over that IDIOT they're using Max Kellerman. That, my friends, is empty space when it comes to boxing.

- God, I'd love his job. I can be useless and talk slowly as if I'm drunk. He shouldn't even have a job. There's no point in him.
- he does seem to be gettin lost a lot but if you can make it thru his pauses he usually states some sound thought.... he should retire but like many commentators he will be missed once we get Kellerman as his replacement.... if you think Merchant was biased wait till you get the next generation of boxing commentators ...i remember when they wanted to get rid of Howard Cossell and now they are looking everywhere to get another like him.... its is time to go but at least wait till we find a worthy replacement
- My God. !! ....I thought that I was the only one who felt that way about Lousy Larry.. Even when he takes his meds his dementia still kicks in & he starts to ramble on. We need more real Boxing Commentators like Don Dunphy was ? I like Teddy Atlas & Emanuel Steward; but I think that Larry + Howard Cossell rank as the 2 worst of all time. --My Mother-In-Law could do better interviews than Merchant does !!

- Larry may have been one of the elite boxing commentators- but those years are long past. He takes all the excitement out of a good fight by slowing it down with his senile monologues. Instead of increasing his voice and tempo with the fight, he slows it down trying to explaing what happened 40 seconds ago. And after the fight, the questions are so slow and unbearable, I now turn it off and read the comments in the articles the next day. Lampley's decent, and Kellerman is quick witted, and knowledgeable. A way better tandem than Merchant. PLease someone start a petition to get him to retire. Its just sad when you have an exciting fight like Mayweather/Hatton, and you have to turn down the volume to keep it exciting!

Dont get me wrong I dont "Hate" the man, I just wish he was dead, or for that matter, never-born! he has to be the most retarded Boxing commentator that has ever lived. he is the "Sling-Blade-Character" of Boxing commentators.
