Should the future Hall of Famer Evander Holyfield retire?
Didn't see the fight but read an article on Boxrec stating that he lost to Ibrigamov on the three judges scorecards by scores of 118-110, 117- 111, 117-111. Should he hang 'em up?

- Sure, YOU go tell him to.
- no way, not until he takes on George Foreman
- Yes he should have hung them up along time ago. As great as he was he is to old and slow now. The big difference between Holyfield and Foreman is/was Foreman had power and that is the last skill a boxer loses. Holyfield never had that kind of power but was on of the best boxer's of his time. His skills are not up to the grind of 12 rounds at 3 mins each and still be able to be great
- Before he is brain damaged, he should get out. It amazes me that any doctor will clear him to fight. I understand the blood sucking promoters, whose only concern is their money will set up anyone to fight if they can make a dollar, and unfortunately many great fighters can not quit when they should.
- He can still be competitive with a lot of boxers out there. I didn't see the match either but read that there were no knockdowns and Holyfield was the early aggresser. When Holyfield would finally back the Russian into a corner he would get clinched but he made no excuses after the fight. Both landed some good clean effective punches but the Russian was clearly the winner. Holyfield will simply go back to the drawing board he has no intention of retiring. Should he? Probably, but I also think if he sticks around he will get yet another title shot within the next couple years. Most thought Foreman should have retired after his decision loss to Holyfield at 46. He continued and after 4 more matches he also lost to Tommy Morrison but in the very next fight -- (two years after losing to Holyfield) he won the heavyweight title. He continued to fight for more than four years after that as well and he is fine today. Could the same thing happen with Holyfield? Possibly. He has never been out of shape in any of his fights and has overcome a lot. I would like him to retire and don't think he has a chance against at least two of the current champions but I respect his wanting to continue.
- yes
- he definitely needs to retire but being that he's in great shape and the best boxer in the division he knows he has a great chance to regain the title while the weight class is full of out of shape guys who really don't have any boxing skills and that makes most fights even for him against a younger out of shape guy who can't box worth a damn. but he's been in to many wars and his body is do to shut down any minute. but with the way the fight game is now all these older guys are gonna stick around until some real fighters step up. bernard hopkins, roy jones, evander , hasime rakman all these guys are still around cause the young fighters can't fight and they're out of shape allah jermaine taylor
- maybe he has been trying to retire, but people are misunderstanding his slurred speech!
- yes, he has nothing left to prove the only reason he should still be boxing is money
- Simple answer is "yes", however ,I still think that Holy has a more than a punchers chance in any fight. He's always (physically) fit to fight, he's a former champ, he's technically sound, and, he's ring saavy. Don't sell this guy short.....he can still get it done. Look for him to get a chance a bigger name within 8 months.......perhaps even a title shot within a year.
- Of course he should. I guess he wants to die in the ring.
- The best thing for Evander Holfield is to retire from the sport of boxing before he becomes so brain damaged that he cannot speak or cripple for life.
- yes, he has taken too many beatings and it is becoming evident with his slurred speach.
- Yes i think he should, Holyfeild has always been known as a fighter with alot of heart possibly the most heart of any heavyweight boxer of any era but at this moment in time his heart is working against him. He can still be competitive against many fighters but is still a shell of the fighter he was, and should definately retire now.
- Ya think?
- i strongly beleive evander holyfield should retire, because there are no more worlds for him to conquer in boxing, 1984 olympic bronze medalist, world cruiserweight and heavyweight boxing champion.
