Hi I am in a dilemma, Should I save my rebate check or should I spend it?

I am 23, and a student of University Nevada Reno. I just recieved my rebate check of 600 dollers from the government today and put it into saveings. I think it is wiser to save the money in case of emergencys or if I lose my job too a poor econemy but my friends tell me to spend it in order to help the econemy. Should I save my rebate check or should I use it to better the econemy by spending it?

1. Save 50-70% of the check, you can spend the other half to help the economy if you want. But, remember...the econonmy WILL bounce back at some point in the future. Especially as economies around the world do better. If you'd like to help in some way, spend the money on Going Green initiatives, this will help the earth AND the economy.
2. Save it. You have to look out for yourself and plan for the future. If you spend it just to "better the economy," you will have nothing when it all goes to pot. Let the rich folks build up the poor economy.
3. the reason why those check were given out was to hopfully improve the econemy, so in my opinion it should be spent...in my eco class we had a huge debate about this same topic, i bought an xbox 360 with my check :)
4. Well, i am going to spend my rebate check on pimping my ride, i am going to buy rims and a grill for my car. The reason i say this because i really dont have any big bills to pay or cant afford to pay. I have my car payment, student loand, and cell phone bill to pay, but i have some extra income in a saving accont and i have enough money to buy things for my car. So i extra money from the rebate check will boost my income to spend more. That is what the president want, so i am doing it.
