Creative ideas for little boys transportation themed bedroom?

We are doing a room for my 18 month old son who's been obsessed with all types of vehicles since, well, forever. We want to do his room with all types of transportation...planes,trains,cars,dump trucks,tractors...all that kind of stuff. He loves the movie Cars and Thomas the Tank Engine too. We plan on having some of that in the room but I don't want to base it around just a character. I have a projector and had planned on doing some murals with these different vehicles. I'd really like to get creative though. Does anyone have any really cool unique ideas?

  1. you could do a border around the top with all of the nascars, and a border at the bottom with trains, then paint all different kinds of old and new types of planes on the ceiling, then, do one wall with an escavating motif, another wall with the cars motif, then another wall with the tanks, then another wall with boats and a water motif

  3. A family member designed their son's room with a transportation theme. The part I loved the most was that they installed a train track around the perimeter of the room near the ceiling (even had it going through a "tunnel" which was the cornice for the window treatment). You could also hang airplanes from the ceiling! Instructions on creating a train track border are included on HGTV site (see link below)
  4. Before executing any theme, please remember safety first. You do not want to encourage your little boy to try to climb to reach something that might cause him to fall. Try to decorate from his perspective. You could make his bed to mimic a train pulling cars (for his toys). You should probably paint the airplanes on the walls and possibly make a nozzle coming out of the wall for him to fill his train up with gas and paint his chest of drawers to look like a train station. You could build shelves to mimic a truck stop for him to store his toys. Don't forget street and intersection signs. You could also paint a rug to mimic a pool of water for boats and design a little chair to look like a sail boat. You could have a finding Waldo theme and you you could decorate his room and make a game out out it as well with a cardboard Waldo to hide from him There is a darling pic on the internet of a Waldo city. Just do a search on finding Waldo, you could use the pic as inspiration....it has everything in it planes, trucks ,cars, boats, etc.
  5. Scan the net. I have seen the cars, trucks, planes on quilts and comforters and then trace you designs for the walls from it. Paint green hills and roads on the bottom half and blue skies with trees and clouds on the top half. We did this in my gandsons room and I put autos on the hills and even put names like grandpa on the little truck with garden tools in the back and so on. They also have pictures for the room on the net. They also have little racks for theirr hats, etc.
