Creative ideas for how to teach a class a chapter from American History?

for my class we have to get in a group of six people and teach a chapter from our history book to the class. It's supposed to be really creative how we do it. Any ideas? The Chapter lasts from year 1812-1824. It's mosty about the war of 1812 and expansion westward. Oh and it's a 10th grade class.

  1. I would suggest that you include the event in history to make the answer easier. Without knowing I would suggest making costumes and acting it out.
  2. first, how old are your classmates? second, is the chapter only taught in one day, or can it be a continuation? if they are middle school students, you can talk about something that they can dress up in and go with the holiday theme. as for high school students, they can talk about elizabethan or roman history. if it is a chapter that lasts more than one day, you can start the topic, and when the class is about to be over, say 'to be continued tomorrow'. that would really get their interests to find out what happens tomorrow and for them to be able to act out the scenes, but not in a play sort of way.
  3. role plays or educational games
  4. write out a script of some kind and get everyone active. The best way to grasp attention is by keeping them interested and involved. Try a game or some kind of competition. To focus on a small part of the war of 1812, research the writing of the Star Spangled Banner and maybe in role playing, pretend to come up with the original lyrics. Have fun!
  5. Here's a wonderful website for you to check out http://www.learningcenterusa.net/ ....also just google "creative lessons for teaching US history" and you'll come up with a lot of excellent websites.
  6. Well, you could dress the part, create a tri-fold with information, or you could even create a play. The possibilities are endless!!
