- On August 19, the San Francisco 49ers announced that Rice would sign a contract with them, allowing him to retire as a member of the team where his career began. On August 24, Jerry Rice officially retired as a San Francisco 49er, signing a one-day ceremonial contract for $1,985,806.49 - 1985 being the year he was drafted, 80 for his jersey number, 06 being the year he returned to the 49ers and 49 for his team. That figure was strictly ceremonial, and Rice received no money. There was a halftime ceremony to honor the wide receiver during the 49ers' matchup with the Seattle Seahawks on November 19.
- Jerry Rice retired from the 49ers. After playing nearly his whole career in San Fransisco Rice left to play across the bay (oakland). Next, he made a late season trip to Seattle the next year. But the 49ers aquired him after that year for the sole purpose of having him retire a 49er, the only right thing to do.
- He was with the Denver Broncos, and then retired right before the regular season began in '05. - Rice retired as a 49er. The last roster he was on was the Broncos. Of course he was only with them during training camp before the 05 season. The 49ers let him sign a contract with them for no $ so that he could retire where he should have...in San Francisco.
- jerry rice retired while plaing in the seahawks team
- men & football (sigh)
- He tried to make the BRONCOS but was going to be like 5 on the depth chart. Instead of that he waited that year then went back to S.F. with a one day contract so he could retire a 49ER.
