retirement oz

If you work 20 yrs. as a police officer, and do you have to retire?

Let say you work 20 yrs. already, and you could retire, but what if you don't want to, and if you stay and continue to work, is there a limit to it?

Public Comments

  1. yes
  2. I worked 30 years for my department, to receive a full pension.
  3. Most officers work 25 to 30 years since their retirement benefits significantly increase at those years. At 20 years (depending on dept) you can move to a desk position, courthouse, community resource position. Or you can work the streets until you call it quits for good.
  4. There are many departments where you are eligible to retire after 20 years, but none that require you to. Very few officers actually retire after 20 years. Those that do end up taking other jobs elsewhere.
  5. Depends on the agency you work for.
