Now that Joe Gibbs has retired, who should the Redskins hire as the new coach?
Gregg Williams and Al Saunders are immediate candidates, but outside of those two, who do you want? I say go after Bill Cowher.

- Cowher is a great choice, but does he want to coach still?
- Cowher will not go if the other teams cant get him and they offered LOTS of money what makes you think Snyder will get him . AGAIN COWHER WILL NOT COACH IN 08. P.S Root Zoo stinks.
- Cowher is holding out for the Panthers job, I think. My guess would be Gregg Williams.
- maybe marty shottenheimer
- They'll show interest in Cowher. Maybe interview a few other people, but Gregg Williams will be the head coach of the Washington Redskins next season. Count on it.
- Crazy as it sounds, I think you go with a "players coach" who can rally a team around his passion and relationships. Dave McGinnis, while not hugely successful in Arizona, is a guy players want to play for. With the morale issues on the Redskins with the death of Taylor and the whole fight for respectability over the years, he's exactly what the team needs.
- Just about every fan of a so-so franchise is having fantasies about Bill Cowher coaching their team. Well, Cowher's not coaching anywhere until after the 2008 season, by his own reckoning. When he does emerge from "retirement", I don't believe he would consider a franchise such as Washington. The reason being simply that the owner, Dan Snyder, interferes too much in football operations. Just like many of these new billionaire owners, who have flocked to add NFL teams to their trophy cabinets, Mr. Snyder has proceeded from a false assumption: that business acumen builds winning football teams. The retirement of Joe Gibbs is unfortunate, as his resume and popularity had convinced Mr. Snyder to throttle back his track record of micro-mismanagement...:) Ultimately, given the large number of franchises looking for Head Coaches in 2008 and the relatively low number of available candidates with proven NFL credentials, the Redskins will most likely promote from within. As the mentioned in the Yahoo! Sports articles covering the story, the most likely candidates are Greg Williams and Al Saunders. Such a move would ensure consistency in the short term. Given that other franchise owners have inquired regarding Saunders availability, promoting him may be the best way to retain his services. If the Redskins decide to look outside the organization, it is likely they will focus on one of the many aspiring Assistant Head Coaches throughout the League. Jason Garret is a possibility, assuming the Tuna does make a move and Jerry Jones doesn't counter. Cam Cameron would be a possibility if it hadn't been for an atrocious debut with Miami and his subsequent sacrifice before the Altar of Tunadom Frankly, I would love to see Marty Schottenheimer get another shot. However, that is about as likely as a gaggle of super-models lining up for a shot at dating an underpaid, overworked schmuck like...er...well, me...:)
