retirement oz

Why is it when a foreigner decided to retire or reside in the Philippines?

there is always a suggestion of"marrying a Filipina/better marry a filipina to make it easier for you". Don't you think that's giving a bad idea especially for kapwa kababayan?

  1. yes, a bad idea!!Look at the law abt marriage, annulment, arrogance, adultery etc...in this country! The law there did not follow the social evolution of the society and goes still into the personal private life of people..if U do not have the money for...And as a foreigner its difficult to get justice there...Be very careful!!
  2. As far as i know, Foreigners like to stay in Philippines or spend their retirees because it is cheap in Philippines but not only in Philippines but also in other Asian countries. Coz if they spend their life living in their own countries it is expensive and they are still alive but their money are already finish while if they stay in Philippines the cost of living are cheap plus it will times 3 of their saving money... They already gone but they still have morethan enough left. Marrying a Filipina is one better way that they can live and stay in Philippines as long as they like, that is one of the reason why they want to marry a filipina plus ofcourse they we caring and blah blah blah.. other reason that tey can stay in Philippines according to my own echoz ek-ek is they will pay minimum of P50,000 for their self insurance then they can live in Philippines like a real filipino resident. Hope you get my point.
  3. Yup I know what you mean. They would usually say to get a Filipina so someone will take care of the guy, of their meals & the household chores. Why not pay for a maid instead? Don't get me wrong, I have some officemates who got married to foreigners for the right reasons, so theres no point really in generalizing.
  4. simply put, meron na silang asawa, libre pa ang maid. yan ang masakit na katotohanan sa karamihan ng ganyang sitwasyon. I'm not saying ALL of them, but majority of them. am i right or am i wrong? tama po ako dbah?
  5. Quite right. It's like condemning our girls to a lifetime of servitude to foreigners! Down with this Idea! Girls should only be reserved for marriage to us OFWs coming home from our heroic sojourns of many years in total servitute to foreigners ....... Hmmmm..... can you give me a catalog of the youngest starlets in ABS-CBN and GMA?
  6. for practical reasons, i don't think its such a terrible idea. look at it from another angle. somewhere is there to cook and clean and all that but at the same time, that someone can financially support her own extended family and possibly live a decent, comfortable kind of life that she couldn't attain on her own. its a win-win situation if you think about it. but then again, its just a suggestion...
  7. I think you are incorrect with the assumed sequence in your question. What happens is... foreigner meets filipina, foreigner comes to philippines, foreigner marries filipina. They apply for visa, visa takes forever to obtain, they decide to stay in philippines instead. Not many just decide to go and retire in philippines without any previous connections there. Its a long way from everywhere, its always hot and humid, there are always travel advisories against going there, filipinos dont really like us much except when we have lots of money or pasalubong, any kind of personal convenience or comfort is a sin, and it can be a miserable place to be sometimes. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. Think what will happen if philippines have no more foreigner to come there.
  8. Why not? It helps the economy and get some of our fellow Filipina a taste of a blessed married life.
  9. Yes, that is truly bad advice. However, I do understand why *some* pinays reply accordingly when asked this question off-hand. They are simply referring from their own somewhat narrow viewpoint. In their minds, marriage can be the answer to every great obstacle or challenge they face. Marriage in a general sense can/has been used in the past as the catalyst to: - move out of your parant's home - drop out of school - quit a job - and watch telenovelas all day forever after (j.k.) Admittedly, some of the female yappies here are either married to a foreigner, are about to be married to one, or are here to actively seek one for marriage. Aminin. In such cases, their "marry a pinay to allow a home purchase" attitude may be drawn from their own internal justification/rationalization processed that they underwent as they mulled marriage to a "rich" foreigner--which unfortunately may not have been primarily based on love.
