retirement oz

A question for Filipino americans who plan on or have retired in the Philippines?

When you retire in the Philippines as a FIL-am, are considered as the "cash cow"? Do your relatives ask you for money? Even though I have been living in the US for the last 20 of 23 years of my life, I do plan on retiring back in the Philippines, and wonder if all the stories Ive heard about Fil-Ams who return to the Philippines are "used" by relatives.

  1. Good question. I plan to do the same thing. Answer: you bet. Specially if you advertise that you are. And unless you go incognito or to a different province away from relatives.
  2. yes, thats why you came here to make money, hahaahhahah
  3. stay away from the family
  4. That would depend on you. If you are a strong person and you know how to say NO. then you should not worry about your family. I never had a problem with my relatives.I am generous to them but I am always firm and none of my family so far has ask for anything.
  5. Why not retired to other places in the Philippines aside from your hometown. Try the next province, that way you still can visit them regularly, and don't tell them your address, unless you want a bunch of unexpected relatives showing up next Christmas.
