retirement oz

Should Henry retire from the national team?

He's 31. Im not saying this because he is past his prime, he did a lot for the team and I recognize that. But, it is time to make way for the new generation. I mean, look at the Italians. Totti did a lot for the them and he's gone. Should Henry make way for the likes of: Jeremy Menez Gomis Benzema I know none of these players measure up to Henry as he is now, but someday they might.

  1. Yes. It is time for new and young talent players. If French keeps trying to play Henry, the youth players don't have chances to play.
  2. I dont think its time yet as none of the young French studs stepped up in his place to become the new star striker for the French. This was supposed to be Benzema's breakout tournament but he didn't really impress and didnt score any goals. Until someone steps up, Henry is still France's best and most feared goalscorer.
  3. yes for the first time i can say i thought he looked out of his depth
  4. I think it's too premature to say that. Granted, he had a very disappointing season at Barça, and didn't exactly deliver a stellar performance at the Euro. But to call for him to step aside based on a bad season seems excessive to me. If he continues to play poorly, that would be different. But a player of his stature should never quickly be dismissed. Plus, you need some seasoned veterans to provide leadership and guidance for the younger players. If Domenech had put his petty personal feelings aside and selected players like Pires and Trezeguet, France's performance might have been very different. As for Gomis and Benzema, they didn't get enough of a chance to show what they can do, but hopefully that will change in the near future.
  5. nooooooooo
  6. no. he still has a world cup and a euro left in him. there's no reason why the french cant push for one last success before their golden generation retires. Vieira, Henry, Trezeguet, Wiltord, Cisse, Govou, Coupet, Sagnol, Gallas can last until 2012 if they challenge themselves. after that, its time for players like clichy, ribery, gomis, benzema and nasri to shine.
