retirement oz

What does my husband need to know about retiring?

He is 50, and is concidering applying for disability due to his physical limitations and mental road blocks preventing him changing careers. What should we do first? What do we need to know about the process - we would like to make the transition as smooth as possible, but are unsure how to go about taking the steps we need to - cause we don't know what steps we need to take - anyone with advice would be appreciated.

  1. You and your husband needs to see a financial planner ASAP. At the age of 50, a plan for you and your husband's retirement years should already be set in place. It is ok, do not panic. A financial planner is not that expensive. All you really need to do is get an analisis of your financial situation, and a plan to move foward. You should find someone that has been doing it for a few years, and really cares about your future financial health, and not just making a dollar. But the best advice that you will get about your concerns will come from a financial planner, probably a Certified Financial Planner that specializes in retirements. Good luck.
