- Alot of that depends on your employment status. If you're company offers a 401k, invest in that at a minimum of the what the company will match. If self employed, look into a SEP plan or IRA's. Spread your investments across quality mutual funds that have a long history of positive returns and low fees. That should be your base. Extra money you have, dabble in single stock investing just to add some excitement to your investing. Although risky, small and mid cap companies are fun to invest in and can provide significant returns...if you don't mind losing sometimes! If you're young, invest primarily is stock based funds, and make sure to allocate some to foreign stock funds too.
