Im a 45 year old man how much would someone advise me to put away for my retire ment at 65 , thanks?

1. 3 million. This would give you a before tax income of 150k. Do not believe the myth that you need less money in retirement. More leisure time more expenses. Basic necessities remain the same but now add in all the health insurance you need plus major dental and if you expect to travel or take up some hobby you need cash for that.
2. Depends on your luxury of living. If you live big you will obviously be able to put more in, however you would need more. If you live small, you would need less, not needing a lot of money. Just "guesstimate" in my opinion. See how much you spend on your necessities each year (food, clothes, bill, etc...) and multiply that by 2, and multiply that by the number of years you expect to be alive after 65. Sounds kind of harsh but I would imagine that would be more than enough money :)
