Retirement party gift ideas? This person is not really "retiring".?

Can't give gift, like "time to take it easy" because this person isn't really retiring he is going back to work full time at another place. So any ideas?

  1. Not nearly enough information. Is he sporty? A book reader? A history buff? Brews his own beer? Collects baseball cards? Could give you a thousand ideas which would all be useless without knowing anything other that the person being male.
  2. A party for someone who has taken a new job is more like it. I'd just do a cake and good wishes. Unless you are the boss and then you can gold watch him for his service to the company. You may want to do a single gift like that if the company doesn't.
  3. Since you know where he'll be starting work and perhaps what he'll be doing, is there anything you might give him that will help him at his new job? A reference book for the new business? Desk accessories? A subscription to a professional magazine?
  4. Sounds like this dud is a fraud and deserves nothing, not one damned thing. Tell him that once he gives you the stub off his first social security check, then you will reply with his gift. Until then, he is still working and can afford to buy his own crap!
  5. get him a watch. business people love watches
