3. You have to decide the difference between what you NEED and what you WANT. I need food, clothing, a roof over my head and some heat in the home. The rest is superfluous. What I want is the best restaurants, designer clothing and a big house to tell everyone just how good I am at earning money. The fact being that I am broke and the expense of keeping up this lifestyle is taking me further in debt. The old saying 'It is all on their backs and nothing in their pockets'. Likewise, when you save for a item that you want, rather than just buy it on credit, you tend to appreciate it more. So if you look after the cents, the dollars will look after themselves.
