How much money should I save JUST FOR FOOD for a 2 week trip to Japan?
Hey Everyone, I'll be going to Japan this Spring for 2 weeks, visiting Osaka, Kobe, Himeji, Kyoto, Nikko, Hakone, Kamakura, Tokyo, and Tokyo Disneyland (and Disney-SEA). How much money should I bring FOR JUST FOOD for 2 weeks for myself? I don't plan on eating at any fancy restaurants for anything, just casual dining, fast-food, cafes, etc... Thanks!

- Your budget can vary a lot depending on what you eat. So there's no one answer I can provide to you. However, I do have tips on how you can save money and still eat good in Japan, along with general food tips: http://tokyoexpert.blogspot.com/ I live in Japan, its perfectly possible to eat fine and not spend $30~40 a day. If you follow those tips. For example today I ate: Breakfast: Nikuman (nikuman is a Japanese style bun adapted from a Chinese bun, with meat inside) 105 yen plus 125yen for a drink = 130yen. Lunch - Original Beef Rice Curry @ matsuya 350yen (tea, water, large plate of rice with beef curry and a bowl of miso soup all included in that price, a full meal only 350 yen , which is about $3.80 US dollars). Dinner - Fish & Chips at a Izakaya that strangely had a British menu, 550 for the fish and chips + 300 yen drink = 850. Total spent today: 1330 yen. or about $15 us dollars. And that's me NOT saving money today! Usually, I would cook food at home and save even more per day, but I was just too lazy today. And since you are a traveler you probably don't have access to a stove and frying pan. So you can see, it is perfectly possible to eat cheap (and good while still going out) while not breaking your pocket book. So You can't go wrong with budgeting about 2000yen on the conservative side, 3000yen if you plan to eat or drink a tad more. The key is, if you save money some days, you have that money extra for another day's higher budget.
- Well, I'd suggest taking at least thirty dollars per day. It's more than you need, but due to the dollar to yen ratio at this time, and the fact that it's always good to have backup money, it would be sufficient. I'm also assuming that you're going to only be eating out, and not storing foodstuff in your hotel.
- For just food for 2 weeks, it could be around US$400 to 500 for me because I don't want to take too shabby food but just standard casual dining for memorable trip.
- At first I am Japanese from Tokyo. It will take 1000 yen per a meal. 1000 yen equals 10.84 US$. So,you might want to bring 227.64$ for 2 weeks. If you contact me,I can let you know about good restaurants in Japan.
