What are some suggestions to really saving money/cutting back every month?
Relative to the US economy what are your suggestions to saving money per month or cutting back? I am seeking advice to make a real savings difference. Thank you very much. :)

- What I try to do is every pay cheque put 30-50 dollars in a savings account. If I come across a lump some say around tax time, I like to put half in the savings and distribute the other half between bills and "fun money."
- Eliminate monthly cell phone bill and switch to a basic prepaid plan. Use phone for emergencies only. at a cost of 10 a month rather than 50 and up. Drop cable to basic saving almost 75 to 100 a month. Make coffee at home save 120 a month Cook meals at home from scratch and cut food bill 200 a month. Borrow books from library If you keep track of every penny spent every day for a month you can see the leaks in your budget and eliminate them
- Quit the delivered newspaper, the bottled water delivery, maybe even the bottled water. Make do without cable television. Hang heavier curtains to block out the heat in the summer and in the winter rely on blankets more than the heater. Take public transportation instead of driving. I got rid of my car and moved into a mini apartment. I don't have a TV let alone cable. People say I'm weird, but at least I'm not broke, right?
- There are a number of ways. Get rid of all the extra cable channels. Just go to basic cable. Try to bundle services. Combine phone, internet and cable. Have a garage sale. Sell stuff you don't need or should not have bought on line. Do not go out to restaurants, bars, movies, vacations, etc. Stop spending money on frivolous things you do not really need. Sit down and make a budget and stick to it. Only buy things in your budget that you need, not things you want. You must change your spending habits. I know it seems kind of obvious, but I'll say it anyway. You have to spend less than you make each month. Pick up a book by Dave Ramsey called The Total Money Makeover. (www.daveramsey.com) or any bookstore. This will help you see some of the useless stuff we buy and some of the myths we buy into as a culture. It has helped my wife and I tremendously. Good luck ;-)
- You've gotta get rid of the cable. We downgraded to basic and are saving $70/month. Also, resize your trash can (smaller is cheaper) and recycle more (calling to see what you can recycle makes a BIG impact, I had no idea about some things I was just throwing away). Nix the dinners out, coffee out, movies... you get the idea. Buy necessities and seriously THING BEFORE buying ANYTHING else (even if 1 shirt or CD seems 'cheap' at the moment). It is hard to break away from buying usless items (that nobody really 'needs'), but it will save you a TON of $.
- You need to change the way you spend. Only buy what you need, cut back on dinners out, cut back on the cable, cut back on long distance phone calls, watch how much you spend at the grocery store, when running errands do them all on the same day to save gas, pay off all credit cards, trade DVDs and books with friends, and cut back on entertainment.
