About people retiring early for the younger people to have jobs?
Has the question been ask why we don't let people retire early with insurance so the younger people can have jobs

- That would be illegal. AGE DISCRIMINATION! Employers aren't even allowed to suggest it.
- Actually with the way the economy is going, many that are retired are having to go back to work part-time to make ends meet. What ticks me off is that my retirement fund is dwindling and by the time I go to retire, social security will have busted. With the way things are going right now, many people will have to work until their 90 to be able to support themselves. Everyone is hurting these days, but I think it's mostly older people.
- why would they want to retire - maybe they need the money still or they really find thier job rewarding. The world doesnt owe you anything you know!
- Actually, a lot of companies are now allowing this. Many are also giving some early retirees the opportunity to stay active by coming back part time to train their replacement. The option of the company carrying heath insurance for the rest of their lives isn't viable. If a company let someone who is fifty retire, with full health benefits, and also pay the new employee's insurance (remember, the company has to pay the difference after your share, which is a lot more than what you pay), they wouldn't be able to afford the cost. If the retiree lives to be 110, that's 60 years of health insurance premiums! And, don't expect Medicare to cover retirees...they help them, but typically only after a great big chunk of their social security is taken out to pay for the service. Not everyone has that option though. You have to remember that some people simply don't have enough saved to be able to survive on a fixed income. Saving for retirement isn't always easy. I'm in my 30's, and my retirement savings isn't even $5000. If I had been given a summary of what my pension plan would amount to after thirteen years of working the same job for that company, I might have known that I needed to save money on my own. Even by the time I'm old enough to retire, with costs as they are now, the interest accumulated by then won't be enough...even with social security, if it's still around. In other words...not everyone will be lucky enough to be able to afford to retire.
- good suggestion but what if that person needs that job to sustain his needs and still supporting some family members...let them decide for themselves
- The questions been asked and for many the answer is simply that they don't make social or financial arrangements for people who retire early. There is nothing magical about being older, you still have bills, taxes and insurance, you work because you need the money. You can be paying for your kids weddings and college too. And working gives people a sense of worth and a social network that they don't have being at home all day. Its really pretty selfish to expect people to hang it up just so younger people can get jobs when they don't have the responsibilities of older people. You can't do the jobs older people do, you don't have the experience of someone who's been in business for thirty or forty years. All you can get is entry level because that's what you are. You aren't eligible for Medicare or Social Security until 62 for SS and 65 for Medicare, for a couple its $1360 per month for health insurance, that's a whole lot of money when you think that you are talking retiring at 50.
- Ain't gonna happen in this economy! Over half a million people laid off and it's going to get worse, so people aren't going to retire at less pay so younger people can get jobs...
