Will my husbands firefighter retirement switch over to the military if he joins the army?
Or will he have to start over? He thinks coming from the military they get to keep their retirement when they become civilian firefighters. But does it work the other way around? Thanks

- It doesn't work either way. No civilian retirement transfers to the military. And military retirement time, only transfers if you work for the federal government.
- no doesn't work that way if he retired and then joined it would most guys that get out of the military have some retirement package that maintains. if the firefighters give them "credit" that's a way to get experienced people who you know will die for their brother in boots
- the Army doesn't really have firefighters. I mean they do, but the vast majority of them are CIVILIANS contracted out.
- Yes if he has a TSP. The TSP is a retirement savings plan for civilians who are employed by the United States Government and members of the uniformed services. If your husband's retirement plan can be cashed in, then he will have to re-invest it. He can then set an allotment from his military pay. By the wat, the Army really does have FireFighters (21M).
