How can I save money when getting trees trimmed?

Also, when getting them cut down or "dropped."

Public Comments

  1. Do it yourself? Or just call around and ask different companies for price quotes.
  2. Go to Lowes, buy a tree trimmer, and get after it!
  3. You get rid of the branchs your self, or if the branchs are small enough rent a chipper and use the chips around your plants
  4. Unless they are large trees, do it yourself or look for a small landscaping company that doesn't have a lot of overhead and will give you a good price. Be careful about when to prune -- varies by the tree. check with a local nursery.
  5. Get competitive estimates. Estimates will vary depending on whether you ask them to cut as fire wood, whether they clean the area, whether they take or chip the branches, etc. Ask each one what is the least expensive way and decide how much you want to do for yourself.
  6. Contact your local university's agricultural extension service and ask them for recommendations. They are a great and under used source of help/info on any gardening/landscaping/agricultural issue.
