How much spending money should I save up for Chicago?
I am spending 8 nights in Chicago in early July. How much money (in US dollar) should I put aside for food, general spending (shopping etc), and touristy things? Would $1000 be too little? Thanks! My friend and I are only 18, so I don't think we will be going to any clubs and such. I'm guessing we'll be spending most of our money on food and shopping.

- Depends on how expensive your taste is. Chicago is not a cheap town. $1000 should be fine as long as your not going out to the clubs every night blowing $$$ left and right.
- Bring as much as you can because things add up quickly here! but $1000 dollars should be fine to the average person.
- That should be plenty. While you can spend a fortune in Chicago, you definitely don't have to. The range of prices (from cheap to excessive) is the same as in any other city.
- Plan and spend wisely. Chicago has a tax rate of 11% and more on certain items such as bottled water. (Don't ask) There are great innexpensive restaurants, fast food and free stuff to do in the summer. Lots of street fairs, festivals etc. If you plan on going to The Taste Of Chicago bring more. It's worth the splurge to taste all the amazing culture Chicago has to offer.
