If you retire at 62 is it possible to get insurance that does not cost a Fortune?

I want to retire so bad. Any suggestions on obtaining medical insurance?

  1. At the age of 62, health insurance is probably going to cost a fortune. All you can do is compare policies & rates from a bunch of companies.
  2. Probably it would be very expensive, but try this site where you can get quotes from different companies in your area so you can see if there is something affordable and according with your needs heinsurance.notlong.com
  3. There are no "good" options for a 62 year old. Even if you're perfectly healthy, premiums will still be fairly expensive due to your age. Group coverage through an employer or a spouse's employer, COBRA (if available), or retirement coverage through yours or a spouse's former employer (if available) Those are the realistic options. You can try to purchase your own policy, but it won't be cheap. Otherwise, wait for Medicare.
  4. Health insurance? No. See, there's no "upside" for the insurance company. It's all downside. You're only going to keep the policy for three years, max, so there's a finite amount that you're going to pay in. Then, in your 60's, is when things really, really start going wrong. If you are already in perfect health, and not overweight, a REASONABLE cost for someone your age, one person, is about $1200 a month. But MOST people in their 60's (70%) are overweight, and even more than that already have something serious wrong with them. So you have to keep working, until you can get on welfare health insurance - Medicare.
