Unemployment - Baby Boomers?
With the Baby Boomers Retiring and/or Dying off, won't there still be a shortage of jobs in America? Yes, unskilled labor might never be in short supply as long as illegals can cross the Rio. But what about Skilled labor? Do we have enough Doctors, Lawyers, Carpenters, Engineers, etc? Once 70/million boomers of the 150/million labor force retire or die, there will be a huge hole left unfilled.

- Import skilled labour from China and India. England and Australia are doing. They can come for post and under grad degrees and work at the same time. Government can give baby bonus to anyone who has a baby, people do anything for money these days.
- No way! The world works like this.. almost every second someone is born..ok maybe not every second but you get my point. The world evolves from one generation to the next..so as the baby boomers fade the students stuyding law, medicine, and all that good stuff will replace them. Those carrers are always in demand and with the economy the way it is more people flock to get in an education. The smarter you are the better your carrer is!So I doubt there is a huge hole that will be left unfilled...it will just be replaced :)
- We have way too many Lawyers now.
- the govt that governs a industrialised nation or any said nations will not let it run down that bad...all industrialised nations with a bit of nouse will have its own defensive and self repair mechanisms to combat what your concerned about. sure it will reach a point where things seems really dim especially from the plebeians, but the politicians at the controls are always a few steps ahead.....well hopefully so?. note; hopefully there will be a revolt by industry to get rid / minimise pen pushers and bureaucrats.....and have more tradies in near future.
- Yeah, that's what happens when the political left wing convinces everyone that Zero Population Growth is a good thing. "Zero Population Growth was originally founded in 1968 by Paul R. Ehrlich, Richard Bowers, and Charles Remington, in the wake of the impact from Ehrlich's best-selling book, The Population Bomb." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_Population_Growth In the same way, but on another topic, the political left wing led by Al Gore is doing the same thing with the economy. Obama's new taxes on air quality will cause costs to go up, thereby laying people off and causing prices to go up, thereby making things more expense for everyone, thereby making people poorer. How are the younger generations going to take care of us Baby Boomers when the government wants to put barriers in your way and "redistribute" what you do earn? I would start listening to the free market advocates, if I was you.
