Obama to lower military retirement pay?
I have heard through the grapevine (not a very good source) that Obama plans on lowering military retirement benefits. IS THIS TRUE? Is this going to affect our checks NOW or is this for people who have not retired yet? I am hoping this is all a bad rumor!

- Say it isn't so. Clinton slashed the DOD to bits and now Obama wants to finish it off. What is wrong with these people?
- No he isn't.. He is cutting what he spend in military but he is not going to lower retirement pay.
- No, this is NOT true. Retirement pay isn't going anywhere. Look, Obama wants to get re-elected. One way to make sure it doesn't happen would be to tick off military personnel or reitrees. Obviously our pay won't go down and we will continue to get pay raises every year. And retirement pay won't go away or get lowered either. And tell whoever told you this to stop spreading rumors. Do some research before they start spewing lies.
- Just the opposite is true. He is going to improve benefits and improve services for wounded vets. Mrs. Obama has taken on the job of helping the families of servicemen. You will be much better off now.
- He alone can not touch military retirement pay. Anyone who is already retired or already in the Military has there retirement benefits and pay raises written into law. The only thing that can possibly be done is to change the system to affect future retirees. That is also unlikely, since the Redux system has proven to be a failure and they have back tracked on that plan already.
- It's just a nasty rumor and he does not have the authority to do anything regarding retirement pay. Now he could try to change the retirement system/pay for current/future military but he would be in for one hell of a fight.
