Is Obama limiting spending anywhere or cutting anything to save money?

I am looking a for genuine, unbiased answer. I come from a conservative family but I'm looking for an intelligent answer. Why is it acceptable in the eyes of democrats to plunge us deeper and deeper into debt with small social programs? How is that supposed to pay off both in the short and long term economically?

6. Yes, he is cutting military funding. I am in the Airforce and we have been ordered to halt production of the F-22 Raptor, which is Americas new fighter. I operate in a small unit that provides security for ICBM's and our funding was bad, but now thanks to the cuts, out already aged gear gets to stick with us till we get more money. People that say we are getting better funding should stop watching the news, because even though we dont like being in the war, we'd like the tools to defend ourselves.

8. Rebuttal to NoNo. As of today Obama asked for another 84 billion to fund for the wars. He's not stopping anything. Republicans and Democrats are both crooks. 15. Obama has spent MORE than Bush did in 2 months than it took Bush 8 years to spend. And the only thing Obama is cutting back upon is Military. Bush spent so much money it was stupid... He was way way out of line. Obama... no words can describe the amount he has already spent, lapping Bush in every way. And we are only in the 3rd month of his presidency.

17. Sure he is, but he isn’t stupid. The one place he would dearly love to cut funding is in the military, but that look really bad. He wants to at least look like he cares about the military, so he’s pulling a fast one on us. First he cut all supplemental funding for the military in Iraq and wrapped the cost of the actual fighting into the defense budget. Then he marginally raised that budget and came out looking like he was actually increasing funding when in reality he cut 100 billion in supplemental funding and then added 80 billion of so to the standard budget. Don’t you just love politicians? You have to stay on your toes to keep up!

19. President Obama was very clear that there will be deficit spending in the short term. However, given the gravity of the economic crisis, these expenditures were necessary. You may not agree with it, but it is what it is. However, President Obama is addressing healthcare costs. When this issue is fixed, the savings in healthcare costs will result in 100s of billions of dollars.

21. There are no cuts in social welfare spending or anything else except for the defense. Cutting defense spending is a stupid mistake. People want to do us harm, we are now opening the door for them.
22. Yes, he is. They're not replacing Air Force One, for instance. By pulling out of Iraq, he'll save LOADS. By greening up government buildings, we'll save a lot for decades. Repairing roads and bridges saves everyone money, for decades. But the primary purpose of the Stimulus package is to make up for the lack of money flowing through the economy, and lack of jobs. By spending, hirign people to do things, the people hve jobs, and they use materials, keeping those companies in business, and the people employed. As the recovery goes on, and people have jobs and money, and spend money, keeping suppliers nd such going, then the government cuts back on spending. Since we'll have a healthier economy, with high employment, and thriving businesses, the government will get more in taxes. It's hard to understand why, if you wanted to understand, you haven't listened to what people have been saying about it the last month plus. The other thing that's hard to understand is why people who had NO problem with Bush spending us into the for destructive purposes, such as murdering millions of people, have such huge problems with Obama, who's making things BETTER. The time to pay down the debt is when the economy is thriving. That's what most American's wanted Bush to do with the surplus he inherited from Clinton. Instead, he cut taxes paid by the rich, and started two wars, one of them clearly illegal and wrong. After we have a thriving economy, we can reduce spending and pay down the debt -- IF we don't get more Republicans in office.
