Does SSI Disability interfere with Social Security Retirement?
Hello, I need some answers here. I am a Breastcancer Survivor, In fact, 3 years today. I am wondering about SSI Disability. I know I may not have Social Security when I retire. But, I am wondering if it interferes with your Social Security Retirement Benefits when you retire? Thank You, Kaloni

- No. As long as you meet the qualifications for SSI, it makes no difference if you receive disability or retirement. SSI is just a state supplement to your federal benefit. Your Social Security Disability automatically turns over to Retirement benefits once you hit retirement age. Therefore, your benefits won't change, just the name.
- SSI wouldn't affect your ss retirement benefits, but if you qualify for ss retirement benefits that could affect your SSI payments. If the disability benefits are really social security disability and not SSI, the SS retirement will replace the SSD benefits. And congrats on the 3 years.
- Congratulations on your recovery. Not really sure I understand your question. If you are on Social Security disability, you stay on disability. You would only switch to a retirement benefit if you were no longer eligible for disability. If you are on SSI disability, then at age 62, you must apply for retirement and if that puts you over the income level your SSI may stop.
