retirement oz

When exactly do amateur boxers have to retire?

Can they carry on right up to the eve of their 36th birthday?Do they have to actually retire on their 35th birthday or what?

  1. i suppose they dont have to retire, unless they start losing ALOT. anyway by 35, it would be expected that a boxer has hit Pro, but even so it doesnt mean the ametuer can be made redundant...lol i honestly dont know if there are any laws concerning this so ill just leave it as it is. good luck finding out. <(^_^)>
  2. Some amateur groups have a maximum age so they can not fight once they are too old. When I fought in the Golden Gloves in the early 60s, and I was 17, the maximum age was 27, and we had guys that old still fighting.
  3. depends on what program you are in. GG has age limits (though I am not sure what they are). However most amatuer boxers who fight in leagues such as a Police or military boxing programs continue to fight well into their forties and some beyond. Some of those same fighters are also professional (albeit club fights) boxers.
