retirement oz

Why did the George-HW-Bush appointee David Souter wait for Obama to take office before retiring?

He could have retired when GW Bush was still president. Instead, he decides to retire within the first 100 days of Obama's administration. Does it have anything to do with the path the GOP has taken for the last 8 years?

  1. so obama can replace him with a leftist judge that rules on social justice, not constitutional law.
  2. Could be, who knows perhaps he cares about the direction little georgie might have attempted to go if he did leave then. The man unlike little georgie bush is intelligent.
  3. Souter was an Arlen Specter in a black robe. Good ridance.
  4. Souter became a Flaming Liberal the second his buttcheeks touched the bench. He waited so that he would be replaced by one. Simple. Next?
  5. No this has to do with him being a flaming liberal. Read some of his rediculous arguments. He feels that we need to consider other constitutions when he feels like it though doesn't do that all the time. He feels the constitution is a living document. Not living meaning it can change based on the rules set forth in the constitution though living based on whatever criteria he feels like using to interpret the constitution at the time. He is one of the worst Supreme Court Justices we've ever had and since he doesn't like the US Constitution it's no surprise that he's waited until a like minded Democrat is in office to retire.
  6. Because when he was under bush he wasn't yet ready to retire.. what's the problem? Now he's ready to retire, he decided to announce it now that he will be retiring at the end of this court term.. god you right wingers always try to pick a bone at any liberal without thinking of the most simple explanation.
  7. Because he suffers fron arlen specter syndrome.
  8. Remember Justice Brennan? He was so old but stayed on the Supreme Court, knowing that if he would retire his replacement would be appointed by a Republican. The Republican ideology is so flawed and harmful to our country, that enlightened Conservatives are switching in droves. It just shows a true, patriotic love for our country. Souter, feels safe to retire now. He is satisfied and content in the knowledge that the country is under safe stewardship! The country is under the watchful eyes of a constitutional law scholar and a Congress that shares his philosophy.
  9. I doubt that it has anything to do with the GOP, Souter is just old, give him the benefit of the doubt that he isn't switching over.
