retirement oz

Who used to do the Late Night show? Before Conana?

Was it David Letterman? If yea, does that mean that David Letterman retired or something? Who is taking Conan's spot? Why would Conan want the Late Night position more? Mas moneyz? Someone please answer these questions. I might die. Soon.

  3. going back to the beginning - steve allen, jack parr, johnny carson, jay leno, conan o'brien david letterman wanted to do the tonight show but they gave it to jay leno. that is when david letterman went to cbs
  4. David Letterman.
  5. i dunno why you asked this here either, i sure won't claim conan for our team... anyway,,, david lettermen did late night before conan... i'm not really old but i do know that one... lolz jimmy fallon has been doing late night for a few months now...
  6. Before Conan, it was Letterman. Before Letterman, I think it was Tom Snyder. Letterman took the 11:30 slot at another network, enabling Conan to move into it. The earlier slot is much more lucrative and much more watched. Conan's being replaced by Craig Ferguson, I believe.
  7. Dave Letterman was the host of Late Night, until the whole Johnny Carson replacement fiasco in 1992. Jay Leno was offered to host the Tonight Show instead of Dave, who had been at NBC for years. Dave left for his own show in a competing time slot on CBS, and actually won the ratings war for several seasons. Conan took the Late Night position because he wanted a job. at the time he was just a writer on The Simpsons, and a comedian. He took the opportunity to be on national television to be launch his comedy career further. Now Jimmy Fallon (of SNL fame) hosts Late Night on NBC, because when Jay Leno left the Tonight Show, Conan moved up in the late night television ranks. the whole system is rather patriarchal.
