Is it possible to retire and collect unemployment?
A friend is being downsized (in Michigan) and is eligible to retire, but didn't necessarily plan to yet. She was told she has to choose between collecting unemployment and retiring. Can she do both?

- She has to disclose her pension or retirement when applying for UI. She also has to be actively seeking a new job in order to draw it.
- No. To collect unemployment, you have to be willing, able, and trying to find work. If you retire, you're not willing, or trying to find work.
