retirement oz

Husband just diagnosed with Rheumatoid at age 62. Was not planning on retiring until 65, but?

but if he takes normal retirement, he gets about $1000. If he was to get disability, does anyone know how much more that would be. I looked on the SS gov site, but there is no disability calculators.

  1. aw gawd Im so sorry!! are you in Oz? Does he work for the Gov? see if there is a government redundancy package/pension he can get that gives 50/75% pay out maybe on going payments. best in not in lump sums & but in regular payments! I hope this helps I guess its time to talk to the higher ups of his job to discuss the future of his payments. Hope it all works out! Be strong & do the math & ask for what you know you deserve & can live off! Its the least the gov can try for long service!! go for 75% you both deserve it!!
  2. Is his condition so severe that he cannot keep working until he is 65? Many, many people continue to work with the assistance of medications when they have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I believe that if he takes a disability payment now, he cannot collect his social security until he reaches the age of 65 and disability payments are considerably lower than social security payments. You will have to call and talk with someone at the social security office to find this information. Be prepared to stay on the line for a long, long time when calling.
