How much monthly income do you need, in order to retire in Brazil?

1. Depends how you want to live, whether you want a maid, etc. Also, where do you want to live in Brasil?
2. Your dollar is worth 2 of their reals. The actual cost of living is lower -- housing and public transportation are very inexpensive as are medical care and pharmaceuticals. I considered retiring in Rio but I ended up choosing Miami Beach. I was struggling with Portuguese and knew I would never learn it well enough to be conversant although I could communicate basic needs and read a newspaper well enough to understand what was going on. In Miami Beach, at least a small percentage of the population speak English! Just kidding ... It is almost 50%.
