How can an American citizen obtain dual citizenship for Canada?

My mother is a naturalized american citizen from Canada. I was born/lived in the US for fifty years, but would like to retire to live parttime in Canada and obtain dual US/Canadian citizenship. Is this possible?

  1. Yes, you should contact the nearest Canadian embassy to ask about the detail in the process.
  2. the same way Mexican-Americans do it.

  4. Was your father an American and Mother a Canadian? If yes you are out of luck. Canada Changed its policy on granting dual citizenship few years back. Only Children of Both Canadian Parents can apply for Citizenship prior to Their 18th Birthday. From your Question it seems you do not qualify. Detailed information can be obtained from the CIC website.
