When you become an Infantry Soldier in the Canadian Forces, do they allow you to be one until you retire?
I know this is a silly question, but When you become an Infantry Soldier in the Canadian Forces, do they allow you to be one until you retire? Or at some point when your still an Infantry Soldier do you have to move on to another career in the Forces? What are the chances of being selected for an Infantry soldier by the year 2016 or 2018? Thanks again.

- Eventually you will get to the point where you can no longer sustain the requirements of being a soldier, you will be able to stay within your preferred field but you may be moved onto other duties. This may be a desk job, working as HQ staff for a company, brigade etc. or a leadership role for instance.
- You can stay Infantry for your entire career. Most in fact to just that. There was a program called LOTRP way back when that allowed them to remuster to other trades, but I do not know if that program is still going. There are places that predict recruiting (DREO in Ottawa has pers that do this sort of think; my ex was one of the Defence Scientists working in this area), but the general public will not know this far in advance. However, there is always a turnover in the military, typically 5 percent a year. So, odds are good if you want to become and Infantryman, you will be able to.
