How do I enter my 1099-R into 2012 Tax Calculator?

I am still waiting on my 1099-R but I can access the amounts that were deducted from my check on my retirement website. Do I use the amount I actually received or the total amount before they took anything out? Then where do I put the money they took? Is that a witholding amount?

  1. You use the gross amount (or what the 1099-R says is the taxable amount). If the deductions were for taxes, they would be withholding, and would go in the same area that W-2 withholding goes. If they were medical (medicare supplement, dental, prescription, etc.) insurance premiums, they could possibly be a medical deduction.
  2. you will need the exact amount of the distribution and if they withheld taxes, you will the exact amount that was withheld
