Why do members of congress have better retirement benefits than those on Social Security?
After spending only one term in congress the members of congress receive retirement benefits equal to their congressional salary for the rest of their and their wives lives. It seems to me that if the members of congress received the same benefits as the rest of the Social Security recipients they would do something the correct the mess.

- Because Congressmen and CEO's are the only people who are allowed to vote on their own salaries. It's ridiculous.
- Because people keep voting for the Republicrats
- Does graft and corruption come to mind when it comes for these legislators always looking out for themselves before the citizens who voted them in?
- Because they're better than you and I are, that's why. If you don't believe it, just ask them. You don't really think the Social Security trust fund would be heading for bankruptcy if congressmen/women had to depend on it for retirement money, do you?
- That's not entirely accurate. Additionally, social security shouldn't be counted on as a "retirement benefit".
- Because they're writing the rules. If you disagree, better start a MAJOR petition and put it in the hands of your senators and representatives, and bank on them fighting you all the way, regardless of their political preferences. Citizens have been raising this question for years, but they haven't raised a big enough STINK. Promise them that they won't have your vote or your support unless they get this changed.
- Simple. It is Congress that make retirement laws. They look out for themselves 1st.
- Because they get to vote on their own retirement. If I got to vote on mine, it would be a whole lot better than what it is.
