social security benefits?
My former husband passed away a few weeks ago and I have been told that I could draw from his Social Security retirement fund. We were married for 25 yrs.

- Yes you can. That's one of the reasons why SS was set up.
- yes you need to get in contact with SS and let them know that your husband passed away , so they can get things started for you . You will need proof of everything , which they will tell you what you need
- You need to call the Social Security Office in your city and ask them what you need to bring with you to file a claim then make an appointment. The sooner you start the quicker you will receive a check.
- It depends on your age, If you were still married to him you can begin drawing his social security when you reach 60 years of age or if you have minor children at home you can draw for them no matter what your age is. You need to check with your social security administration to get the right answer.
